High Functional Burnout

Sometimes burnout isn’t spending all day in bed and not leaving the house for weeks. Sometimes it shows up as you still doing all your daily responsibilities but not feeling present, or struggling with emotional connection.

High functional burnout can often look like you’re holding it all together despite crumbling inside.

Often high functional burnout can occur due to using achievement as a coping strategy, we view achievement as something to strive towards to avoid slowing down, because slowing down often the mean dealing with the things we’re currently avoiding.

So how do we manage this?
• Being to introduce microrest, in between tasks focus on grounding yourself and taking a deep breath to help stay regulated.
•We remove the shame, you’re not lazy, you’re burnout. You need this time to re charge.. it shouldn’t be an option.
•We reduce the invisible load, the things we don’t have to show up at 100% in we stop! We use this time instead to prioritise ourselves.

Burnout isn’t something we can recover from without rest. However it is something we can prevent.

If you struggle with high functional burnout whats something you can do to avoid it in the future?
